A lot has happened over the last week at work, and it's starting to become more and more busy each weekend. Great!
Anyways, let's do the usual round-up of guests:
One lady wanted to return her mostly eaten birthday cake because it didn't have raspberry filling. Boo hoo! She was a fucking twat about it too. Ok, so you didn't get raspberry filling, but I definitely don't think she deserved a full refund. If I were her, I would've brought it up to the store's attention and at least expected a discount, but I would only take a full refund if they offered it. So basically she got a free birthday cake. Oh well, our policy says we can return food no matter what. It just pisses me off when we get people that return food JUST because they didn't like the way it tasted. And that's Target's problem? Taste is YOUR OWN personal opinion and usually there is nothing wrong with the food item itself. It's fucked up. I would never be so bold/stupid to return a bottle of fucking salad dressing just because I didn't like the taste. I'd throw it away and make a mental note.
When I was cashiering on Sunday (yeah it sucked), there was this Canadian woman with a full cart of groceries. Ask any cashier at my store, Canadians are the worst! So anyway, she unloads the cart and says she wants separate transactions. Separate transactions piss me off unless it's 2 or 3. The nutjob asked me a price on an item, I told her, and then she wanted it on a separate transaction. I ended up doing around 25 transactions for this bitch. I don't understand, she paid cash for every single fucking transaction. But they are only allowed so much over the border within a certain time period and then they have to pay duty, so they get separate transactions to cheat their government out of money. I was on the least busy lane and yet there was a line for my lane because of her. By the 10th transaction I was getting so god damn pissy especially when she kept saying, "Ok now ring those three up. These are for my mom." I really don't fucking care! I also hate when they come up to GS and ask for their receipt to be split. AKA separate transactions. Catch me in a bad mood and I'll tell them we don't do it. Technically we can, we would just have to return everything on their receipt and buy it back which is a lot of fucking work. Besides it's a Canadian, why should we? They suck! haha
Then there was this one guy who I swear ate paintchips. This happened when I worked Friday, and apparently he was in on Thursday and this is what happened, supposedly, then:
He returns a defective phone, and wants to get a different phone. The GSTM (Guest Service Team Member for you rookies) returned it and gave him a giftcard because his check didn't clear yet. So he took the giftcard, and bought another phone using the giftcard.
Friday=me working:
Guy comes in with the newer phone and says it's defective. So I do the return and the system tells me to refund it as ~$120 on the giftcard and ~$40 on his Visa. He freaks out saying he paid by check and that he wants his cash back. I told him that this phone was paid for with a giftcard and a credit card and that is all we could do. We refund back the way it was purchased. I also told him that when he decided to take the giftcard, that was it, the transaction was over, and we couldn't go back and get cash back for his check. He justed started saying that he was going to stop payment on his check and blah blah blah. I told him he really couldn't stop payment because it was paid for. It is stealing plain and simple. Well, he wouldn't go away so I called a manager and he backed me up. He also said that he could stop payment on his check but someone would go after him (like a collection agency) to get that money regardless if he left both the phone and the giftcard there. For whatever reason the manager told him to come back in 10 days (usual wait time for a check to clear) and then see if there is anything we can do for him. I knew right then there is nothing more we can do.
Just think about it, it had already gone through 3 transactions that we can't undo. 1 to return it, one to buy the new phone, and 1 to return the new phone. Once the giftcard is issued, it's not tied to the check anymore. It is it's own thing now. Once you use the giftcard, it's a different tender. Thank God I don't work on the day he's coming back in, but I work the day before. Hopefully he doesn't get antsy and come in early. (Crossing my fingers)
That wraps it up guestwise, but I also did some other things. I trained Marie Friday night in GS. Great, yet another person to take my hours up there. Oh well, I explained pretty much every situation at GS, but it would have been a HELL of a lot easier if we could have put one of the registers in training mode. Marie listened well, but obviously needs more practice. I also talked with Renae at he end of the night saying when they do decide to mass train at GS that it should be done on Sunday morning before the store opens. (We open at 12 on Sundays because of state laws. That's a dead giveaway where I am!) We could put all registers in training mode and have people come in at 9am or so and we could run through everything. I told Renae I'd be happy to do it. I also asked if I could come in early on the day after Thanksgiving so I could go outside and have people that are waiting apply for Target cards. Anything to boost my numbers!
My friend and I got into an all out rant about Target. Today's topic was paging. Our shit list:
-Guests that just walk right up to you while your helping someone and ask for a page. Dur! I'm helping someone retard! Unless you're giving out $1 million just to page, wait your turn!
EX) I seriously had one (Canadian, go figure) woman who walked right up and interrupted asking for a page. If it's an emergency then ok I will, but this wasn't. I told her I'd be right with her and she sighed and rolled her eyes. When I was finishing the transaction for the first guest I told her to have a nice day. The canuck rolled her eyes again. So I finally do the page for her. I should have kicked her lack of brains out.
-People that give just a first name. "Uh, can you page John?" Ok retard, there are probably a few Johns in the fucking store, can you be a little more specific!?
EX) There was this one lady (again a canuck) who wanted me to page her friend Peggy or whatever her name was. I asked what her last name was and the lady wouldn't tell me because she didn't want everyone in the store to know her last name. No one fucking knows you here! She told me to just page Peggy from Winnipeg. Stupidly I did it, but I won't do it again.
-Guests that want a person paged to a certain area.
EX) When I do pages, I say, "Attention Target guests, would ---- come to Guest Service, ------ to Guest Service, thank you." I don't alter that. AT ALL. So I usually have a few people who want the person paged to the front of the store... that's a big area genius! I only page to Guest Service and if you're friend/relative is too stupid to figure it out, that's not my problem!
-We don't do specialty pages.
EX) Nothing deviates from what I usually say. No, I'm not going to announce over the whole store that Barb, your husband is waiting for you in the car. I'll page her up to GS and then tell her. Or better yet, go tell her yourself.
-Multiple person pages.
EX) I hate doing them. I write down the names so I don't forget them. I actually had one woman tell me that the was an 'e' at the end when I wrote down Ann. DOES IT REALLY FUCKING MATTER WITH A PAGE!? I should have said, "Attention Target guests, would Ann with an E please come to GS." No because it doesn't fucking matter!
I'm sure I'll pick another facet of GS to bitch about in a later post otherwise I'd be here for weeks! I work tonight 4:30-close GS, so hopefully I'll fill my tank with more stupid idiots.
Nothing scares me, I work retail.
